First Generation
Our branch of the Stockton family begins with Thomas Stockton, born about 1505 in Edsley, Shropshire, England. He was married sometime before 1530 to Joyce Gervis (died January 30, 1579/80, Whitchurch, Shropshire, England). Thomas died about October 1558 in Edsley, Shropshire, England.

Second Generation
Thomas Stockton was born about 1530 in Edsley, Shropshire, England. After reaching the proper age he took up an apprenticeship as a smith, an occupation he continued in throughout his life. In about 1553, Thomas married Joan Richardson (born about 1532). Thomas died about April 24, 1591 in Whitchurch, Shropshire, England.

1. John Stockton (Rev.), born about 1554
2. Ann Stockton, born about 1556, married before 1591to John Evanson.
3. Thomas Stockton, born about 1558, married circa 1580 to Joan (maiden name unknown).
4. Isabel Stockton, born about 1560, and married to Richard Yonge.

Third Generation
The first child of Thomas and Joan Stockton, the Rev. John Stockton, was born about 1554 in Shropshire, England. He married Susanna Whittington (born about 1560) around 1577 in Whitchurch, Shropshire, England.
The Reverend John Stockton was the pastor of the church at Alcester as early as 1587, and was installed as Rector on June 27, 1595 at London. His patron (the individual who recommended him) was none other than Sir Fulk Grenvil (1554 - 1628) a knight in the court of Queen Elizabeth. He was also a member of the English Parliament and known as Lord Brooke. Stockton signed the Bishop’s transcripts of the parish register until his death.
The Rev. John Stockton died November 13, 1630 in Kimcote & Walton, Leicestershire, England and is buried there. The children of Rev. John Stockton and his wife Susanna were:
1. Silvanus Stockton, born before August 17, 1578 in Alcester, co. Warwick, England and died before 1620
2. Theodorus Stockton, born before November 15, 1579 in Alcester, co. Warwick, England and was buried April 29, 1603
3. Prudence Stockton, born before May 14, 1581 in Alcester, co. Warwick, England and was buried August 9, 1583, only two years later.
4. Susanna Stockton, born before November 4, 1582 in Alcester, co. Warwick, England and was buried October 22, 1605
5. Prudence Stockton, born before December 20, 1584 in Alcester, co. Warwick, England. She was married to Edward Holyoke.
6. Sarah Stockton, born before March 5, 1586/ 87 in Alcester, co. Warwick, England. Sarah married William Halford in 1610, was widowed and married a second time to Thomas West on June 8, 1637. She died and was buried September 2, 1670 in Kimcote & Walton, Leicestershire, England.
7. Gilbert Stockton, born before March 16, 1588/ 89 in Alcester, co. Warwick, England. Gilbert married Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) circa 1615, and was buried January 22, 1677/ 78.
8. Margaret Stockton, born before December 21, 1590 in Alcester, co. Warwick, England. Margaret married Thomas Winterton on May 5, 1613, and was buried June 3, 1633
9. Hester Stockton, born before October 15, 1592, in Alcester, co. Warwick, England, and died after 1630
10. John Stockton, born before August 18, 1594. He followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the clergy becoming a reverend himself. He died April 10, 1630 in Tanworth, co. Warwick, England.
11. Rebecca Stockton, born before May 30, 1596 in Alcester, co. Warwick, England. She married Maurice Cragg circa 1616.
12. Mary Stockton, born before April 16, 1598 in Alcester, co. Warwick, England, and was buried April 22, 1598
