Welcome to the Tuttle Family History Website!
"To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child. For what is the worth of human life, unless it is woven into the life of our ancestors by the records of history?" -Cicero
"We must not lose touch with what we were, nor with what we have been. We must not allow the well of our history to dry up, for a child without tradition is a child crippled before the world. Tradition can also be an anchor of stability and a shield to guard one from irresponsibility and hasty decision" -Louis L'Amour
"It is a revered thing to see an ancient castle not in decay, But how much more it is to behold an ancient family which has stood against the waves and weathers of time." -Francis Bacon

Welcome to the Tuttle Family History Web Page! When I began researching our family history back in November of 1978, I scarcely realized that some twenty - plus years later I would still be doing it. All it took to get me started was viewing the award winning television mini-series Roots. I couldn’t wait to discover my family history. Since then I have engulfed myself in the history of our family. I have searched records, books, computer databases, microfiche and film. I have combed libraries and family history centers for information. I have talked at length with family members, both close family and distant cousins, by telephone, U.S. mail and internet, probing their memories for any inkling or scrap of remembrance they may be willing to surrender to me.
What I have discovered has entranced and enthralled me through this journey. I have learned of our travels across Europe; how we became established in Ireland, Switzerland, The Netherlands, England, and other countries until our final arrival in the New World. Of course, our arrival in America did not end our journey. Although many in our family chose to remain in the eastern part of this country, many of us moved west, participating in the opening of the American frontier. I have enjoyed every step of this never ending journey, always looking forward to the next step, the next genealogical discovery.
The result of this incredible journey is a constantly changing book. In order to help keep family members updated until I finish this book (assuming I ever do!), I have created this web page. I am sure both this web page, as well as the book, will continue to grow, as I have no intention or desire to stop searching. I’m having too much fun. So please, sit back and discover your history and your roots, but remember, as a wise man once said, a ship doesn’t sail with yesterdays wind. You must make your own way in this world. But whatever path you take, you take your ancestors with you. Please enjoy!
